Valve actuators in marine version
Ship operation facilities and their auxiliary systems consist to a large extent of pipelines, valves, pumps and regulating devices.
In the course of constantly increasing automation and optimising of processes, electric actuators are becoming more and more important for process control.
The more complex the processes become, the more important is the role of reliable actuators serving as links between controls and MOV’s in pipelines.

The outstanding feature of AUMA’s electric actuators is the favourable relationship between output torque and size. Large and heavy pneumatic
or hydraulic actuators, which require extensive piping, are no longer necessary. By using AUMAactuators valuable space and weight are saved.
Perilous hydraulic oils or compressed gases are no longer required and therefore this source of danger for the crew and ship is eliminated.
All in all AUMA actuators offer significant advantages in regard to reliability and safety. They have therefore become important components for many fleets worldwide.
Applications
AUMA valve actuators are used to control valves in many fields connected to the safe operation of the ship. This includes:
- Bilge pumps and leakage water systems
- Fuel systems
- Other systems for supply and disposal
-
Ballast systems
Certification
AUMA multi-turn actuators for marine application in combination with valves are approved by the "German Federal Departmentfor Military Engineering and Procurement" for the use on surface vessels for the Armed Forces. One version with a special approval is used on the new submarine generation of the German Federal Navy.
The features
AUMA valve actuators fulfil all requirements for marine ship-building:
- Robust design
- Self-locking with high mechanical efficiency
- Corrosion-proof housing and external parts
- Small size with high output torque
- To a large extrent non-magnetic
- Types of enclosure protection:
IP67 Standard
IP68 Option - Emergency manual operation without change-over requirement
- Special operating elements according to VG 85 081
- Operation with almost no noise
- Electrical connection via pressure-tight plug/socket connectors
- Shock resistance according to BV 043
- Vibration resistence according to BV 044
