InterApp - butterfly valve

Desponia UHMWPE

The picture below shows the new InterApp Desponia butterfly valve, developed especially to withstand the influence of extremely abrasive and corrosive media.

This valve is particularly well suited for use in applications within the mining, chemical and pulp & paper industries, and for demanding media such as cement, powder and granulates.

UHMWPE is a technical plastic with long-chain molecule and a molecular weight between 2 - 6 million g/mol (as reference, water has a molecular weight 18 g/mol). The most important applications of this material is in orthopedic and medicinal technique. Therefor UHMWPE has most approval/acceptance in medical or food and beverage applications.

The tough, wear and corrosion resistant properties of UHMWPE make it ideal for pipe or valve linings. The low friction coefficient of the plastic prevent clogging. But very sharp, high velocity particles are normally handled better by ceramics or tungsten carbide (more expensive solution).
